Zillar Barta Desk, Dhaka: Bangladesh have confirmed a 15-member squad for their upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, with Najmul Hossain Shanto continuing as Test captain. The match is scheduled to begin on October 9 in the United Arab Emirates.
Shanto will lead a squad that combines experienced campaigners with emerging talent. Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are among the senior players included, while Tanzid Hasan, Shadman Islam and Soumya Sarkar provide further batting options. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named vice-captain.
One of the notable inclusions is Towhid Hridoy, who earned his recall after producing a record-breaking unbeaten 350 for Bangladesh A against South Africa A earlier this month. Jaker Ali Anik has also returned to the Test squad.
Bangladesh's bowling attack features Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, with Mehidy and Taijul Islam providing the main spin options. Taskin Ahmed has been rested, while Nahid Rana continues his recovery from injury.
The Afghanistan Test follows Bangladesh's 1-1 drawn two-match Test series in Australia, where the Tigers recorded their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil in Darwin before Australia levelled the series in Mackay. Bangladesh will now look to carry that momentum into their UAE assignment against Afghanistan.
