Zillar Barta Desk, Kyiv : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine carried out long-range strikes overnight targeting key oil-industry and logistics facilities in Russia’s Moscow region.
Zelensky said the operation was conducted by Ukrainian security and intelligence agencies using multiple long-range strike systems. He credited the Security Service of Ukraine, Unmanned Systems Forces, Special Operations Forces, Defence Intelligence and the Foreign Intelligence Service for the operation.
Ukraine’s General Staff separately said its forces struck the Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district. Ukrainian officials reported damage to several processing units and said a large fire broke out at the facility. The refinery is one of Russia’s major oil-processing sites serving the Moscow region.
Zelensky also said a facility in Russia’s Voronezh region had been targeted, describing the action as the imposition of “sanctions” on the facility. He did not provide further details about the target or the extent of the reported damage.
The strikes came amid continued attacks between Russia and Ukraine. Russian authorities reported a large-scale Ukrainian drone assault, while Ukrainian officials continued to report Russian strikes on targets in Ukraine. The two sides have repeatedly exchanged long-range attacks as the war continues.
Calling for an end to the conflict, Zelensky said Moscow should stop the war and pursue peace. He also referred to possible de-escalation measures involving energy and food security, saying that political will was needed to move toward negotiations.
