Zillar Barta Desk, Kathmandu: Several parts of Nepal are facing a severe weather situation as incessant rainfall has triggered floods and landslides, disrupting traffic on major highways and roads across the country. Authorities have issued red alerts in vulnerable areas amid the risk of further heavy rainfall and landslides.
The Prithvi Highway and Narayanghat–Muglin road have been blocked at several locations after landslides brought down mud and debris onto the roads. Road-clearing teams and heavy machinery have been deployed to restore traffic.
In Karnali Province, landslides have disrupted major routes including the Karnali Corridor, Karnali Highway, Mid-Hill Highway and Rapti Highway. Authorities are working to clear debris and reopen the affected stretches.
Heavy rain has also caused rivers to rise above danger levels in parts of the country, while flooding has forced hundreds of families to move to safer locations. Nepal's disaster management authorities reported deaths and missing persons linked to floods and landslides since September 24.
Officials have urged residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly along vulnerable mountain roads and highways.
