Zillar Barta Desk : Australia began their three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe with a 59-run victory in Harare, thanks to a superb maiden ODI century from Matt Renshaw and a five-wicket haul from Nathan Ellis.
Batting first, Australia posted 294 for 8 after being asked to build their innings on a challenging surface. Renshaw produced the standout performance, scoring 109 runs from 94 balls to register his first century in ODI cricket. His innings provided the stability Australia needed after Zimbabwe's bowlers made early inroads.
Renshaw found valuable support from Cooper Connolly, who contributed 51, while other Australian batters made useful contributions to push the total close to 300. Zimbabwe's Newman Nyamhuri was their leading bowler, taking 5 wickets for 62 runs.
Zimbabwe's chase initially showed promise, particularly through a 98-run partnership between Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza. Ervine scored 59 and Raza added 57, but Australia's bowling attack eventually took control.
Nathan Ellis was the key figure with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for 31 runs as Zimbabwe were bowled out for 235 in 45.1 overs. Australia therefore took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The second and third ODIs are scheduled for September 18 and 20 in Harare, giving Zimbabwe an opportunity to level the series while Australia look to build on their opening victory.
