Zillar Barta Desk,New Delhi : Tata Steel CEO and Managing Director T V Narendran has highlighted the resilience of the Indian economy amid growing global uncertainties, saying that the changing international environment is creating significant opportunities for India.
Speaking at the Platinum Jubilee National Management Convention 2026 of the All India Management Association (AIMA), Narendran said global interest in India is exceptionally high, with the country increasingly viewed as a market, manufacturing base, source of technology and talent, and strategic partner.
Narendran noted that businesses are facing several challenges, including geopolitical tensions, tariffs and trade barriers, climate-related disruptions, rapid technological changes and supply-chain uncertainties. He cited disruptions affecting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as an example of how geopolitical developments can raise energy, freight and insurance costs.
Despite these global headwinds, he pointed to India's economic performance, noting that the economy expanded by 7.8% in the April-June quarter, while investment grew by 11.9%, with manufacturing and services making significant contributions.
Narendran stressed that resilience should now be viewed alongside competitiveness. According to him, companies need to prepare for disruptions by diversifying supply sources, strengthening technological capabilities and developing talent that can adapt to changing circumstances.
He also emphasized the importance of moving beyond simple assembly and developing stronger domestic capabilities in design, engineering, intellectual property and advanced technical skills.
Narendran said the global environment is changing rapidly and that India's ability to benefit from the emerging opportunities will depend on how effectively the country strengthens its competitiveness and builds resilience across sectors.
