Zillar Barta Desk : The Indian women’s cricket team clinched the gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, defeating Sri Lanka by a commanding 147 runs in the women’s T20 final on Tuesday, September 22. The victory gave India its first gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games.
Batting first after winning the toss, India posted a huge 216/3. Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a brilliant 79 off 45 balls, while Shafali Verma scored 48 off 29 balls. Richa Ghosh provided a spectacular finish, remaining unbeaten on 49 off just 22 balls.
India's bowlers then produced a dominant performance, dismissing Sri Lanka for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs. Deepti Sharma was the leading wicket-taker with 3/6, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil and Shree Charani picked up two wickets each.
The triumph also marked India's second consecutive Asian Games gold medal in women's cricket, following the team's title-winning campaign at the previous Games.
The gold medal lifted India's overall tally at the 2026 Asian Games to seven medals — one gold, four silver and two bronze, according to reports published after the cricket final.
