Zillar Barta Desk : Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was seen walking through the streets of New York on Tuesday as he headed to meet French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The two leaders met in New York to discuss Ukraine’s security situation and support ahead of the winter season. According to Ukraine’s presidential office, discussions focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air-defence capabilities and securing additional SAMP/T air-defence systems and missiles through financial resources available under a European Union loan.
Zelenskyy arrived in New York for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where he has a series of meetings with world leaders and other international representatives.
During his meeting with Macron, the Ukrainian president also discussed efforts to strengthen cooperation on air defence and the possibility of producing air-defence systems and missiles in Ukraine. The two sides also addressed preparations for the coming winter amid continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Macron had earlier met US President Donald Trump in New York, where Ukraine, defensive weapons and proposals concerning a possible moratorium on attacks against energy infrastructure were among the issues discussed.
The meeting between Zelenskyy and Macron comes as international leaders gather in New York for the UN General Assembly, with the war in Ukraine remaining a major issue on the diplomatic agenda.
