Zillar Barta Desk,New Delhi : Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan visited the Daman Night Market during his maiden visit to the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu on September 11–12, 2026. The visit formed part of his tour of important tourism and waterfront development sites in Daman, including Ramsetu Seafront and Namopath Seafront.
During his visit, the Vice President appreciated the initiatives aimed at strengthening Daman's tourism potential while showcasing its cultural and historical heritage. The Daman Night Market has emerged as one of the attractions supporting the region's efforts to offer visitors a combination of local culture, food, entertainment and tourism experiences.
Radhakrishnan also highlighted the broader development of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, describing the Union Territory as a “mini India” because of its cultural diversity, heritage and people from different parts of the country living together. He noted that tourism has grown significantly, with annual tourist footfall increasing from around six lakh in 2021 to nearly 50 lakh in 2025.
The Vice President pointed to initiatives such as the Daman Night Market, Ramsetu Seafront, restored heritage sites, beaches, water sports and eco-tourism projects as important components of the region's tourism development. He said such initiatives can help create economic opportunities while preserving and promoting the area's heritage and natural attractions.
His visit underlined the growing emphasis on tourism, heritage conservation and waterfront development as part of the Union Territory's broader development strategy and the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
