Zillar Barta Desk,,New York: U.S. Vice President JD Vance joined victims’ families, first responders and former U.S. presidents at the Ground Zero memorial ceremony in New York on Friday to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The solemn ceremony commemorated the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives when hijacked aircraft struck the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Vance attended the New York ceremony alongside former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Victims’ relatives read out the names of those killed in the attacks, while moments of silence were observed to mark key events of that tragic day.
For the first time at the anniversary ceremony, a separate moment of silence was also held to remember people who have died in the years since 9/11 from illnesses linked to exposure to toxic dust following the attacks.
President Donald Trump marked the anniversary separately at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, where he delivered remarks honoring the victims and first responders.
The 25th anniversary ceremonies across the United States served as a solemn reminder of the lasting impact of the attacks on American society, national security and foreign policy, while honoring the victims, survivors, first responders and their families.
