Zillar Barta Desk,Kushinagar: Several villages in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district were inundated after a major breach occurred in the embankment of the Narayani River following a sharp rise in water flow from Nepal.
The breach took place near Tatwa Tola late Monday night, flooding surrounding areas and disrupting connectivity. The situation developed after heavy rainfall in Nepal led to a significant increase in the river’s water discharge.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas on Tuesday and reached the ground to assess the situation. He met flood-affected residents and reviewed the ongoing rescue and relief operations.
The Chief Minister directed the administration to ensure the immediate evacuation of people from vulnerable areas and instructed the NDRF and SDRF teams to intensify rescue operations. Officials have also been asked to ensure adequate relief material reaches affected families.
Yogi Adityanath said that thousands of relief packets had been arranged for the affected population and directed officials to conduct surveys so that eligible victims could receive compensation. He also ordered repairs to damaged roads and measures to prevent waterborne diseases, including medical camps in affected areas.
The Chief Minister further instructed the Water Resources Department to strengthen the damaged embankment. Once the situation returns to normal, dredging and channelisation of the Narayani River have also been proposed to improve the river’s flow and reduce the risk to nearby villages.
Authorities remain on alert as floodwaters continue to affect low-lying areas of Kushinagar and neighbouring districts.
