Zillar Barta Desk : Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana continues to rewrite the record books, establishing herself as one of the leading run-scorers in international cricket. Her recent performances have added another chapter to a career defined by consistency, attacking batting and a steady evolution across formats.
Mandhana recently became the leading run-scorer in women’s international cricket, surpassing former India captain Mithali Raj’s tally of 10,868 runs. She reached the landmark during a sensational 124-run innings against Hong Kong in the Women’s Asia Cup, taking her international tally to 10,880 runs. The innings also saw her register her 18th international century, making her the leading century-maker in women’s international cricket.
Her record-breaking run continued at the Asian Games. During India’s semi-final victory over Bangladesh on September 20, Mandhana scored 37 from just 19 deliveries, helping India reach 195 for four. In the process, she moved past New Zealand’s Suzie Bates to become the highest run-scorer in women’s T20 internationals, with 4,788 runs from 171 innings.
Mandhana’s progress has also been reflected in her changing batting style. Recent statistical analysis shows that her average and scoring rate have increased significantly over the course of her international career, with greater attacking intent complementing the timing and stroke-making that have long been associated with her batting.
The left-handed opener has therefore emerged as a key figure in India’s batting lineup across Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Her ability to combine consistency with increasingly aggressive strokeplay has allowed her to remain effective as the demands of international women’s cricket have evolved.
