People gathered at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, lighting candles and observing moments of remembrance for the victims while expressing solidarity with grieving families. The gathering came amid an ongoing rescue and recovery operation following the catastrophic floods and landslides.
The disaster, which followed a major glacial and rock collapse on August 26, has killed more than 1,200 people in Nepal, while thousands remain missing. Search operations are continuing in several severely affected areas.
The candlelight vigil at Boudhanath offered a poignant moment of collective mourning, with the lights symbolising remembrance, prayers and hope for those still unaccounted for. Reports also said India has continued sending humanitarian assistance to Nepal, including medical supplies and forensic kits, to support relief and rescue efforts.
The vigil served as a powerful tribute to the victims of one of Nepal’s most devastating recent natural disasters.
