Zillar Barta Desk ,iran : Iran is reportedly accelerating efforts to develop and strengthen its domestically produced air-defence capabilities, as renewed military clashes with the United States raise concerns over the vulnerability of Tehran’s existing defensive network.
An Iranian military general has claimed that the country is developing an indigenous air-defence system aimed at improving its ability to detect and counter hostile aircraft, drones and other aerial threats. The reported move comes amid a fresh escalation between Washington and Tehran.
The latest confrontation has seen the United States carry out strikes against Iranian air-defence systems, radar installations, maritime assets and communications facilities. Iran subsequently launched missile and drone attacks against U.S. military positions in parts of the Middle East, according to reports.
Iran’s push for indigenous defence technology reflects its broader strategy of reducing dependence on foreign military equipment and rebuilding capabilities damaged during the conflict. Tehran has previously invested heavily in systems such as the Bavar-373 and 15 Khordad air-defence platforms.
The renewed fighting has also increased tensions around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy shipments. The United States has been seeking to maintain freedom of navigation through the waterway, while Iran has threatened to use military measures to challenge American operations there.
Analysts say Iran’s ability to rapidly restore radar coverage, air-defence networks and command-and-control infrastructure could become an important factor in the next phase of the conflict. However, the effectiveness of any newly developed system remains difficult to independently verify.
The latest escalation marks one of the most serious exchanges between the two countries since the previous lull in fighting, with both sides warning of further retaliation.
