Zillar Barta Desk, Bishkek : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, called for sustained efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan through continued development assistance and humanitarian support for the Afghan people. He said peace and stability in Afghanistan are closely linked to the security of the wider Eurasian region.
PM Modi said India has been contributing to Afghanistan's development and providing humanitarian assistance and will continue its support. He stressed that a peaceful and secure Afghanistan is essential for regional stability and cooperation.
Highlighting the growing impact of regional conflicts, the Prime Minister warned that crises in one part of the world can have consequences far beyond their immediate geography. He pointed to disruptions to global energy security, maritime trade and supply chains, noting that countries of the Global South often bear the greatest burden of such instability.
Calling for a peaceful approach to international disputes, Modi reiterated India's position that tensions and conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy rather than the battlefield. He said escalation of regional conflicts could have serious consequences for global economic and security interests.
On terrorism, the Prime Minister delivered a strong message against state-supported terrorism and called for the dismantling of the entire ecosystem that enables terrorist activities, including financing, recruitment, radicalisation and safe havens. He said there can be no double standards in the global fight against terrorism.
Modi further stressed that countries using terrorism as an instrument of policy must receive a clear message that terrorism can never be treated as a strategic asset. His remarks reinforced India's call for collective international action against terrorism and those who provide support or shelter to terrorist groups.
The Prime Minister identified Security, Connectivity and Opportunity as the three key pillars of India's vision for the SCO and urged member states to translate these principles into concrete outcomes for regional peace, development and prosperity.
