Zillar Barta Desk,New Delhi: Delhi Police detained workers of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) during a protest outside Parliament Street Police Station, as tensions continued over allegations of police misconduct against student activists in the national capital.
The demonstration, held on October 15, 2026, was reportedly organised to demand accountability over the alleged assault of two female NSUI workers during an earlier protest near Connaught Place. The protesters called for action against the police personnel allegedly involved in the incident.
NSUI national president Vinod Jakhar and other activists participated in the demonstration. The protesters also demanded access to CCTV footage from the police station, arguing that the recordings could help establish the facts surrounding the alleged incident.
The protest followed allegations by NSUI members that a woman police constable had physically assaulted female activists while they were being detained during an earlier demonstration. The allegations have intensified the confrontation between the student organisation and Delhi Police.
The controversy comes amid continuing protests by student and youth organisations over the functioning of the Election Commission of India and demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Demonstrators have also raised concerns about restrictions on designated protest venues in Delhi.
The police detentions have added another development to the ongoing dispute, with NSUI insisting that it will continue to demand accountability and justice for its members.
The allegations of assault remain contested, and the circumstances surrounding the incidents require investigation. Further details regarding the latest detentions and any official response from Delhi Police were not immediately available.
