Zillar Barta Desk,New Delhi: Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years in public service, highlighting the growing strength of relations between India and the United Kingdom.

Sunak acknowledged Modi’s long journey in public life, which began with his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister in October 2001 before he became Prime Minister of India in May 2014. Modi’s completion of 25 years in public service marks a significant milestone in his political career.

The former UK Prime Minister also emphasised the strengthening relationship between the two countries, which share cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, technology, defence and security.

UK-India Relations Gain Momentum

India and the United Kingdom have continued to expand their bilateral engagement through high-level discussions and economic cooperation. Both countries have sought to strengthen trade ties, encourage business partnerships and create new opportunities for their citizens.

The India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), signed in July 2025, represents an important development in their economic relationship, with both sides seeking to deepen commercial engagement.

Cooperation in education, research, innovation and technology has also remained an important part of the bilateral agenda. The Indian diaspora in Britain continues to play a significant role in strengthening cultural and economic links between the two nations.

Focus on Future Cooperation

Sunak’s remarks highlight the continuing engagement between political leaders in India and the UK and the importance of maintaining strong bilateral relations.

As both countries work to expand cooperation across strategic and economic sectors, their partnership remains an important element of their broader international engagement.

The comments also draw attention to Modi’s 25-year journey in executive public office, from leading Gujarat to heading the Indian government, while underscoring the importance of continued collaboration between New Delhi and London.
