Zillar Barta Desk, New Delhi : Security personnel detained several National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) workers during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Connaught Place in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The protest saw NSUI members raising their concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission and issues surrounding the electoral process. Security personnel intervened during the demonstration and detained the protesting workers as tensions developed at the protest site.
The demonstration comes amid a broader political confrontation between opposition parties and the Election Commission over allegations concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition leaders have raised questions about the voter-list revision process and demanded greater transparency and accountability.
The Election Commission’s role in maintaining the integrity of elections has remained at the centre of the political debate, with opposition parties pressing their concerns through protests and public statements.
The detention of NSUI workers at Connaught Place added to the ongoing political developments in the national capital. The incident highlighted the continuing friction between student organisations and the authorities over issues related to electoral transparency and democratic accountability.
