Zillar Barta Desk,New Delhi : The national capital has been placed on high alert ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and other groups, with security arrangements tightened around key government establishments, including Rashtrapati Bhavan and Seva Tirth, the complex housing the Prime Minister’s Office.
The heightened security comes amid preparations for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Delhi Police has stepped up security across several sensitive areas, deploying additional personnel, setting up barricades and increasing surveillance to prevent any disruption to public order.
Authorities have also introduced traffic restrictions and additional checks at strategic locations. Security arrangements have been strengthened around important government buildings and other sensitive areas as a precautionary measure ahead of the planned demonstration.
According to media reports, police have prepared an extensive security plan involving surveillance cameras, designated detention facilities and checkpoints across the capital.
The CJP and supporting groups have called for a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, raising allegations concerning the revision of electoral rolls and the removal of names from voter lists.
The organisers have demanded accountability from the Election Commission and called for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation. The allegations have become a subject of political debate, with concerns raised over transparency and the potential impact of electoral roll revisions on voters.
Delhi Police has denied permission for the proposed gathering, citing law-and-order concerns and restrictions on unauthorised assemblies.
Security agencies are coordinating efforts to manage the expected movement of protesters and minimise disruptions to traffic and essential services. Commuters have been advised to check official traffic and public transport advisories before travelling through affected areas.
The developments have also drawn attention to the balance between maintaining public order and protecting the constitutional right to peaceful protest.
As the situation unfolds, the focus remains on the police response, the movement of protest organisers and the possible impact of the security restrictions on daily life in the national capital.
