Zillar Barta Desk, Miami, USA: At least five people were killed and five others injured after an Amazon Prime Air cargo aircraft overran a runway and crashed at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, 2026, according to local officials. Three of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The aircraft was a Boeing 767-300 freighter, operating as Prime Air Flight 7598 for Amazon. The flight was operated by cargo carrier 21 Air and had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, before attempting to land in Miami shortly before 2 p.m. local time.
Authorities said the aircraft ran beyond the end of the runway and struck several vehicles on the ground before coming to a stop and catching fire. Emergency crews, including more than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units, responded to the scene. The pilots were reportedly trapped inside the aircraft during the rescue operation.
The crash temporarily disrupted operations at one of the United States' busiest airports, with flights halted while emergency teams worked at the scene. Airport operations later began to resume, although delays were expected.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash. The cause of the runway overrun has not yet been determined, and authorities have not publicly released the identities of those killed. Amazon and 21 Air said they were cooperating with investigators and supporting those affected.
The incident is particularly notable because Amazon-operated cargo flights have previously involved Boeing 767 aircraft. In 2019, an Amazon Air-contracted Boeing 767 crashed near Houston, Texas, killing all three people aboard.
